Children's Author Performs for U of G Child-Care Centre

Robert Munsch, one of Canada's best-known children's authors, will present “Stories for the Winter-time” Feb. 19 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. at the River Run Centre to benefit the University of Guelph Child-Care and Learning Centre.

Reserved-seating tickets cost $12.50 and may be purchased at the centre's box office, located at 35 Woolwich Street, or by calling 763-3000. The performance is presented by University Centre Programming.

All proceeds will go to the U of G Child-Care and Learning Centre, which holds fundraisers throughout the year to buy children's toys, computer equipment and other essentials.

Munsch, who holds an honorary degree from U of G, is a former member of the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition. He has written more than 40 children's books and has sold 30 million copies, many of which have been translated into other languages.

His book Love You Forever was the best-selling children's book in Canada from 1986 to 1988, and the New York Times named it the best-selling children's picture book in the United States in 1994. The book, which has sold more than 20 million copies, was even read aloud in an episode of the NBC comedy series Friends. Some of his other books, notably The Paperbag Princess, have appeared in university curricula dealing with children's literature as well as women's studies. Munsch also does voice recordings of his work, and many of his stories have been released as video animation.
