U of G celebrates national engineering week
The University of Guelph will celebrate National Engineering Week March 2 to 10 with special activities for children and a colloquium on water resources engineering.
National Engineering Week is intended to raise public awareness of the importance of engineering and technology and to encourage young people to consider careers in the field. The emphasis is on activities for youth that show how math and science can be fun and that demonstrate real-life applications of engineering.
For the university's part, Guelph engineering students and staff will set up interactive displays for children at the Stone Road Mall. The booth will be open March 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and March 10 from noon to 5 p.m. The displays will include hands-on engineering activities for children and their families.
In addition, the university will host a water resources engineering colloquium March 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 1307 of the Thornbrough Building. Everyone is welcome. Speakers include professors Bill Stammers, William James, Doug Joy, Isobel Heathcote, and Andrea Bradford. A general discussion on the issues surrounding the protection of water resources will follow.
