Gryphon Swimmers Bring Home Gold Medals from Commonwealth Lifesaving
Adam Nicholson and John Eddolls both members of the University of Guelph Gryphon swim team and the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club have just returned from represented Canada at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in England.
Both athletes performed exceptionally well in helping Canada finish second behind Australia in the 8 nations competition.
Adam bought home an individual Gold in the Rescue Tube event and a Bronze medal in the Manikin rescue event. He missed another chance at a Gold in the Super Lifesaver, his best event, when he was disqualified for a technical misadventure.
John also had an excellent competition with three top 6 finishes. In the Aquatic Obstacle race he missed the bronze medal by 15/100 of a second. Both Nicholson and Eddolls helped their team to a pair of silver medals in the two relay events as well as a stunning upset of the Australian team in the Rescue Tube relay to bring home the Gold for Canada.
The competitors attended a reception at Buckingham palace where they had the opportunity to mingle and speak with the Queen, Prince Phillip and other members of the Royal Family before heading home to Canada.
Adam is one of the head guards at the University of Guelph pool and is also employed by the Canadian Coast Guard this summer. John is an assistant aquatics manager with the City of Halton Hills. Further results can be found at:
