Collège d'Alfred launches Technology and Innovation Days
On April 3 and 4, the University of Guelph’s Collège d’Alfred will host two information and networking days on technologies and innovations related to agriculture, particularly dairy production.
The goal is to provide regional farmers with an opportunity to meet manufacturers and distributors and gather information on the latest equipment and materials, says Charles Goubau, head of Alfred’s rural innovation and training department. In addition to presentations by industry representatives, a business fair will give participants a chance to see what’s new and find out how it works.
“Farmers don’t often have the chance to see, compare and gather information on so many innovations at once,” says Goubau. “Being on top of leading-edge technologies isn’t always easy, but farmers must stay informed to keep their competitive edge.”
Technologies and innovations to be presented at Alfred include milking robots, computer-assisted herd management, biological control of barn flies, continuous rubber flooring carpet, precision spreading with GPS, biomass production and combustion, and an animal behaviour modifier to improve feed consumption.
On hand to discuss these topics will be experts and representatives from companies such as Agco-Field Star, Agro-Centre Belcan, Alleymat, AMS Liberty, Bio-Enhancement Systems, Case IH, Coop Agri-Est, DFO, SHI, Dell Point Technologies, FENDT, GEHL, John Deere, Lely, New Holland, Profab et Westfalia-Surge.
The technology and innovation days run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No advance registration is required. Cost is $35 for one day or $60 for both days.
