Two peregrine falcon chicks moving to U of G
Two month-old peregrine falcon chicks will call the roof of a University of Guelph residences home for a few weeks while they learn to adapt to living in the wild.
The chicks will live in a hackbox on the roof of the East residences for about two weeks under 24-hour video surveillance and be fed three times a day. The birds will then be released, and daily feedings will continue until they no longer return to the hackbox for food.
This project is headed by the Canadian Peregrine Foundation, in partnership with the Guelph Naturalists, the Ontario Veterinary College's Wild Bird Clinic and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The public may view the birds between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. via a live video monitor at the Falcon Watch Centre, located on the 11th floor of the East Residences, suite 11.4. Live monitoring will also be available soon via the world wide web at www.peregrine-foundation.ca. A community "name the chicks" contest is forthcoming.
The East residences are located off East Ring Road and Dundas Lane on the U of G campus, it is the tallest section of the residences.
