His lecture is part of the W.C. Winegard Alumni Visiting Professorship program being held in the University of Guelph's Ontario Agricultural College this year as part of the college's 125th anniversary celebrations. Shaver is the third of 10 speakers. Shaver's research focuses on applied nutrition of lactating dairy cattle with emphasis on carbohydrates and forages. His primary extension thrust has been the co-ordination of applied feeding and management conferences for veterinarians, private consultants and feed industry representatives. He has authored many journal articles and scientific abstracts and is a member of the American Dairy Science Association, American Society of Animal Science, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, and Wisconsin Association of Professional Agricultural Consultants.
