Future of women in development, economy topic of lecture
Women's roles in the economy and future development is the topic of the sixth annual Hopper Lecture on International Development Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the University of Guelph.
Joanna D. Kerr, a researcher in gender and development and director of the Gender Program for the North-South Institute, will speak on "Women's Rights in the Future Economy: Can Feminists Transform Development?" The North-South Institute analyses economic, social and political implications of global change.
The lecture will be at 7:30 p.m. in room 113 of the MacNaughton Building. It is free and open to the public.
Kerr received her bachelor's of arts in African Studies from the University of Toronto and her master's degree in gender development at Sussex University in Great Britain. She has lived in Tanzania, England Germany and Ghana, and has worked and researched in China, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, The Netherlands and Uganda. She founded and coordinates Ottawa's Gender and Development Working Group, created and manages the Gender and Economic Reform in Africa and served on the board of the Association for Women in Development.
