Mid-career professionals in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors looking to advance both personally and professionally are invited to attend the conference, which runs July 11 to 13. “The world as we know it has been turned upside down,” said Patrick Boyer, conference chair and University of Guelph political scientist. “Our very concept of leadership itself is taking on new meanings. The stakes are high. It is time to both recognize this new leadership challenge and understand its implications.” The Recognition of Leadership will help participants define, understand and aspire to this new leadership challenge, he said. The conference coincides with the launch of the Diploma in Leadership Program. Over 20 speakers from different sectors will share their perspectives on what makes an effective leader, as well as the role leadership plays in government, corporate and public sectors. Ontario’s Chief Justice, Roy McMurtry will deliver the keynote speech July 11. He will share his insights about how to recognize leaders and how those leaders can help individuals advance. On July 12, Blondin-Andrew, Canada’s Secretary of State for Youth and Children and Member of Parliament for Western Arctic, will draw on her experience to address the qualities that connect leaders with people and causes. The fee for the conference is $395, or $350 for participants who register before June 15. The rate for full-time university and college students is $175. The conference fee includes conference sessions, a reception, refreshments, lunches and a banquet.
