University of Guelph Website Redesign

U of G is launching its redesigned Web site today, which includes a fresh look, improvements to the site's organization and updated online tools such as a new campus map.

"While the last design was generally well received, there wasn't much consistency between pages," says Stuart Robertson, the University's website manager. "With the new design, we wanted to create a more unified website that better represents the personality of the University."

Last spring, an online survey asked the University community and external users what they would like to see improved on the Web site. "We reviewed the survey results, as well as the feedback we received by e-mail, and were able to incorporate many of the suggestions into the redesign," Robertson says. "The direction we took with the style, changes to organization and the inclusion of a link to WebCT on the homepage were all suggestions from our community."

Several online tools have also been improved. WebMail and WebAdvisor have been updated with new designs and the new online directory and campus map will make it easier to find people, places and services at the University, Robertson says.

Staff will continue to update pages and add new features over the coming weeks and months. "We are committed to making our Web site accessible for all users and to using web standards that ensure it will be compatible with as many different web browsers and internet devices as possible," Robertson says.

The University's homepage was last designed in 2001 and received the Gold Medal from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education for "Best Institutional Homepage."
