U of G library acquires resources worth over $1,000,000
The University of Guelph Library has purchased electronic access to two prominent scholarly resources, Elsevier Science Direct and Early English Books. These purchases, worth $510,000 in one-time costs and $375,000 per year for ongoing subscriptions, have in part been made possible through a group purchase with almost all academic libraries in Canada.
Desktop access to this large body of academic publishing will be a major support for teaching and research at the university.
Elsevier is the largest scholarly publisher of journals in the world, primarily in the medical, scientific and social science areas. U of G now has access to over 1,500 Elsevier journal imprints. The subscription includes access to archives back to January 1998.
From the first book printed in English by William Caxton, Early English Books Online provides a complete record of the early printed text in English. It contains full-text versions of over 125,000 English-language books with imprints from 1450 to 1700. This resource includes works by Malory, Bacon, More, Erasmus, Newton and Galileo, and musical exercises by Henry Purcell.
