Thursday’s Guelph Interaction Conference will give secondary school students in grades 10 and 11 a chance to experience the living and learning environment of a university community. The conference begins at 10 a.m. in the main gym of the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre. Students can choose two sessions from more than 40 offerings by U of G students, faculty and staff. Sessions include: “Crispy, Crunchy and Delicious: The Science Behind Potato Chips,” with food science professor Rick Yada; “From Fallout Shelter to the Martian Hilton: Evolution of Concepts in Advanced Life Support for Manned Space Missions,” Geoff Waters, Department of Plant Agriculture; “Introduction to Public Presentations," professor Kim Renders, School of Languages and Literatures; and “Feeding Time at the Zoo,” Dave Barney, Toronto Zoo. Friday, U of G hosts the Guelph Connection Conference, which provides an opportunity for Guelph applicants and their families to explore the University and to register in interactive sessions related to academic disciplines and student services. The conference begins at 10 a.m. in the main gym of the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre, followed by separate sessions for students and parents. Students can choose from more than 50 sessions lead by staff and faculty. They will learn more about life as a university student, hear about some of the research being conducted on campus and experience university-style lectures. Parents will have a chance to find out more about admissions, scholarships, co-op, residence life, athletics and a range of other academic and student life issues.
