U of G Habitat for Humanity recruiting student home builders
The University of Guelph chapter of the charitable housing program Habitat for Humanity (HFH) is joining forces with other university chapters in recruiting students to build a home Sept. 1 to 6 for a deserving family in Kitchener, Ont.
The First Canadian Student Build project is connecting U of G, University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, McMaster University, University of Windsor, University of Saskatchewan and University of Alberta HFH chapters in their efforts to bring student volunteers together to build a home for a local family. Students can apply to build on this project by completing an application on the Web at www.studentbuild.ca.
Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing by building homes in partnership with families in need. The program, which began in 1976 in Georgia, formed its first Canadian affiliate in Winkler, Man., in 1985. The U of G chapter was formed in 1996. There are now 56 affiliates in 10 provinces that have placed more than 500 Canadian families into new homes. HFH is in 80 countries and is responsible for placing more than 110,000 families into new homes around the world.
The First Canadian Student Build project is a partnership among the HFH Canadian campus chapters, HFH Waterloo Region and HFH Canada.
