Published by Communications and Public Affairs (519) 824-4120, Ext. 56982 or 53338 Campus BulletinJune 20, 2003 U of G: Enrolment numbers reflect qualityThe University of Guelph and University of Guelph-Humber have exceeded U of G’s double cohort commitments to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, according to new figures released by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). “Overall, the quality of the applicant pool is the strongest Guelph has ever seen,” says Maureen Mancuso, associate vice-president (academic) and chair of the University’s Enrolment Co-ordinating Committee. The Guelph campus has admitted 500 to 600 more first-year students than its original estimate of 4,000 for fall 2003. “However, we expect that figure to decrease as other universities make additional rounds of offers,” Mancuso says, adding the University community will be updated as new numbers become available. “We are pleased that so many students are choosing Guelph, it’s a testament to our reputation. Even though the acceptance number is higher than predicted, it’s still within the range that we projected and we remain on target to accommodate increased growth from the double cohort.” Mancuso adds that the University has been planning for this student growth since 1998. “We will continue to work closely with all of the deans and colleges to ensure that we are maintaining a high-quality educational experience for all our students.” Rozanski Hall, the new classroom complex, and the new Guelph-Humber buildings will open before the additional intake in September. U of G will also continue to guarantee on-campus housing at U of G for semester-one students who applied by the deadline. |
