SARS Update: August 14
The University of Guelph’s SARS advisory committee continues to meet and
monitor the most updated information related to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The committee is expanding its role to include other communicable and infectious diseases, and will be reviewing and developing appropriate response measures and policies.
The University, consistent with Health Canada’s directive, continues to
promote continued vigilance for SARS for the foreseeable future. This
includes asking people to self-monitor for symptoms and take appropriate
action, and practice good personal hygiene. As with any infectious
disease, regular and thorough hand washing is essential to reducing
transmission. Detailed information on proper hand washing and its
importance is available from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
The University’s Student Health Services, like other medical clinics and
hospitals in the region, continues to take precautionary SARS screening
measures.
The SARS advisory committee will continue to monitor the SARS situation
and will post updates or changes as appropriate. Students who have
questions about issues related to SARS should contact Student Health
Services at Ext. 54333. Faculty and staff should call Occupational
Health Services at Ext. 52133.
