Student association names top professor
The University of Guelph’s Central Student Association (CSA) will present its annual Teaching Excellence Award today to an adjunct professor in the Department of Food Science.
Massimo Marcone will receive the honour during the 30th annual CSA Community Barbecue. The student sponsored award is presented each year to a U of G instructor who demonstrates profound dedication to undergraduates and to post-secondary education.
“After reviewing all of the phenomenal nominations we received this year, the Teaching Excellence Award Committee unanimously chose Dr. Marcone for his consistent dedication to making the learning process interesting for all students,” said David Hornsby, CSA academic commissioner.
Marcone was commended for his accessible, innovative and attentive teaching style, Hornsby said. “Massimo is a model instructor here at the University of Guelph and is an inspiration to both students and faculty. He is a perfect example of the dedicated teacher who has become common at the University.”
Marcone said he is “deeply honoured and humbled” by the award and to be joining an impressive roster of previous faculty award recipients. “I owe a debt of gratitude not only to this University for the privilege of being able to teach such bright, intelligent and energetic students, but also to our students for allowing me the privilege of learning from them and sharing with me their great love of learning. The University of Guelph is truly a world-class teaching and research institution that owes its outstanding reputation to the collaborative efforts of all its students, faculty and staff, who work together as equal stakeholders for the collective good of all.”
