U of G students to combat hunger Halloween night

When University of Guelph students involved in "Trick or Eat" get dressed up to go door-to-door from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Halloween night, they won't be asking for candy for themselves. They'll be collecting food for the Guelph Food Bank.

The "Trick or Eat" campaign is organized by Meal Exchange, a national student-run organization that aims to engage students from 30 Canadian campuses in solving the problem of hunger in their communities.

U of G students have taken part in the "Trick or Eat" initiative since 2002. "This year, our goal is to collect 7,000 pounds of food, that's 2,000 more than last year," said Anita Abraham, a Meal Exchange co-ordinator and third-year U of G student. "People in the city of Guelph are generous, and there is a desire to help those who are less fortunate, so we know that our students' time on Halloween night this year will reap amazing results!"

Students can sign up to participate in "Trick or Eat" until Oct. 31 by visiting www.uoguelph.ca/~meal. For more information, contact Abraham at (519) 824-4120, Ext. 58212, or meal@uoguelph.ca.
