Interhall Council seeks players for charity hockey game

U of G’s Interhall Council is looking for students interested in taking part in a 48-hour continuous hockey game to raise money for charity.

Interested students who live in residence should sign up Monday at 5:30 p.m. in MacNaughton Room 105. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, says Cat Taylor, Interhall Council president.

“We need about 120 players for two teams, and each team will be divided into shifts that will rotate to keep the game going,” she says. “We are interested in people of all skill levels, and all players must bring their own equipment.” Preference will be given to students who live in residence, but the game may be open to all students, depending on the response.

The Interhall Hockey Classic will be held Feb. 27 on a special rink that will be constructed outside Maritime Hall for the event. Each player must donate $50, either raised by pledges or donations. All proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton.

“Interhall has a tradition of holding events to help raise money for charity, and we are particularly attracted to sporting events,” says Taylor, who serves on an organizing committee for the event with students Ryan Wright, Adam Saville, Cam Fryer, Nicole Therrien and Matthew Trennum.

In addition to raising money for charity, the game will be an “unofficial attempt” to break a world record for the longest continuous hockey game, Taylor adds. For more information, contact the Interhall Council Office at Ext. 58304.
