U of G celebrates research accomplishments
The University of Guelph celebrated its many years of research success today, highlighting the accomplishments of faculty, staff and students and acknowledging the support of its private and public-sector research partners.
“We have a diverse community of individuals who enrich the world with their scholarship and innovation,” said Alan Wildeman, vice-president (research), during a special event at Rozanski Hall that recognized the contributions of the university’s faculty, students, staff and post-doctoral fellows, who span six colleges.
“Collectively, the research at this university centres around the goals of improving quality of life; whether it be through creative works; through studies of families and societies; through research on the environment, food or health; or through broadening our knowledge of the physical world around us,” Wildeman said.
At the event, U of G recognized its Canada Research Chairs, as well as faculty who have received honours from, among others, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Canada Council for the Arts, Networks of Centres of Excellence, Ontario Innovation Trust and Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund.
Suzanne Duval, co-ordinator of institutional relations for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), attended the event on behalf of CFI and announced recent awards that have been granted to U of G faculty.
U of G is the second most research intensive university in Canada (based on the ratio of research funds to operating funds), the first among non medical schools.
