Published by Communications and Public Affairs (519) 824-4120, Ext. 56982 or 53338 News ReleaseApril 28, 2004 Students and Parents to ‘Interact and Connect’ at U of GNearly 2,000 secondary school students and their families will be descending on the University of Guelph this week for two recruitment conferences being co-ordinated by the University’s Admission Services. Thursday’s Guelph Interaction Conference will give secondary school students in grades 10 and 11 a chance to experience the living and learning environment of a university community. The conference begins at 10 a.m. in Rozanski Hall. Students can choose two sessions from more than 40 offerings by U of G students, faculty and staff. Sessions include: "Sociology: Through Art, Film, Music and Analysis," "Fungus Amongst Us," "Exploring the World of Robotics and Mechatronics" and “University Transition: What is it REALLY Going to be Like?" Friday, U of G hosts the Guelph Connection Conference, which provides an opportunity for Guelph applicants and their families to explore the University and to register in interactive sessions related to academic disciplines and student services. The conference begins at 9:30 a.m. in Rozanski Hall, followed by separate sessions for students and parents. Students can choose from more than 50 sessions lead by staff and faculty. They will learn more about life as a university student, hear about some of the research being conducted on campus and experience university-style lectures, including "The Psychology of Close Relationships," "Questioning the Media - What Makes News," "Biological Engineering: Biomedical Laboratory Tour," "Exploring Biology at Guelph" and "Freedom at Last! Survival Skills for Residence Living.” Parents will have a chance to find out more about admissions, scholarships, co-op, residence life, athletics and a range of other academic and student life issues.
