Campus Bulletin

September 08, 2004

Air conditioning to be turned off for electrical pole repair

Note: This bulletin was updated Sept. 9

The repairs have been delayed due to technical problems within the distribution system and the wet weather. Guelph Hydro is now anticipating having the repairs completed by Sept. 11.

As a result of a car colliding into an electrical pole on College Avenue Sept. 7, the air conditioning will be temporarily turned off in many areas on campus Sept. 8 to Sept. 10 so that Guelph Hydro can repair the pole.

The systems on campus that have domestic water back up will be switched over by Physical Resources staff. Cooling will be maintained in animal holding facilities.

To keep work areas cool, the campus community can assist by turning off non-essential lights to save power and reduce the heat load. It is requested that all window air conditioning units be kept off. In the event that the electrical load is still exceeded, ventilation systems may be required to cycle on and off on a rotation basis.

Patience and understanding from the University community is appreciated in this unavoidable situation.
