Canada Research Chair lecture Dec. 3
The third lecture in a new series highlighting the explorations and discoveries of the University of Guelph’s Canada Research Chairs will be held Dec. 3.
Biomedical sciences professor Jonathan LaMarre, the Canada Research Chair in Comparative Biomedical Sciences, will speak on “From Prometheus to Gene Expression: Lessons from Playing with Fire” at 12:30 p.m. in Room 103 of Rozanski Hall.
LaMarre was named a chair holder in 2001. He is leading a laboratory inquiry on the regulation of individual genes, tissues and species and the role they play in disease states.
The Canada Research Chair lecture series, launched in October, is intended to raise awareness of the CRC program. The lectures are aimed at a general audience and feature the knowledge gained and the new applications being developed by chair holders. Three lectures will be held each semester in the fall and winter.
Twenty-three U of G professors hold prestigious Canada Research Chairs, a program created by the federal government to help universities retain and attract world-class faculty. The lecture series is intended to allow the chairs to share their work with the University and broader community.
