Arts Week to feature concerts, creations, careers
The College of Arts Student Union at the University of Guelph is sponsoring Arts Week today through Feb. 4. Highlights include a career night, an arts bazaar, and a talk on the globalization by the group Tumi and the Volume, who will also perform.
All events are free and open to the public. The week is intended to connect arts students with their programs and college and increase awareness on campus and in the community.
Tonight, students are invited to meet the Department of History’s faculty from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Grad Lounge.
Tuesday features a lecture and concert by Tumi and the Volume, a hip hop band from South Africa on its first North American tour. The band’s sound encompasses hip hop, spoken word, rock, jazz and soul.
Band members will discuss the globalization of hip hop from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in Room 107 of the MacKinnon Building. At 8 p.m., they will give a free public concert in the Brass Taps.
Also on Tuesday, an arts and science career night runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the group viewing room in the McLaughlin Library, located on the third floor. While enjoying a free dinner, students can talk with people working in a variety of fields, including genetics, crime reporting, consulting, illustrating, publicity, teaching and law.
On Wednesday, the Music Student Association presents a free concert from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Grad Lounge. On Thursday, there will be a Arts Pub at 6:30 p.m. in the Bull Ring with live music, drinks and refreshments.
On Friday, arts students host a craft show, “How Bazaar,” in the University Centre courtyard from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature student-made goods, including jewelry, art, décor, clothing and posters.
