Luncheon to honour Professor emeritus Don Barnum
Friends and colleagues will honour Professor emeritus Don Barnum at a special luncheon on Saturday, April 29 in the Lifetime Learning Centre.
“It will be a small celebration to honour Don, who has been a faculty member since 1945,” says Dr. John Prescott, chair of the Department of Pathobiology. “He’s still working hard and coming to work virtually every day.
“He’s such a fine person and positive influence on everyone that we felt it was appropriate to honour him.”
Barnum, who graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1941, joined the faculty after serving in the Canadian Army Medical Corps. His influence on the field of veterinary bacteriology has been widely felt, and over the years he mentored many graduate students who went on to prominent careers, such as Dr. Carlton Gyles, known internationally for his expertise on E. coli.
The luncheon to honour Barnum will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
