OVC students take home awards from AABP
The achievements of two students from the Ontario Veterinary College were highlighted recently at the 39th annual meeting of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) in St. Paul, Minn.
Rebecca Whitcombe, a third-year student in the DVM program, was awarded a prestigious Amstutz Scholarship.
Cynthia Todd, an MSc student in the Department of Population Medicine, won second place in the Graduate Student Research Presentations.
Todd’s presentation was entitled “The Efficacy of Meloxicam as an Adjunct Therapy in the Treatment of Neonatal Calf Diarrhea Complex.”
The $1,500 Amstutz Scholarships are awarded in honour of Dr. Harold E. Amstutz, an esteemed bovine researcher who was the AABP's first executive vice-president. The awards aim to attract well-trained veterinarians to food animal practice, particularly bovine practice, and to offer various educational enrichment opportunities to help ensure that practitioners are well trained to meet the needs of the 21st century.
Fourteen Amstutz scholarships are awarded annually. Recipients are selected based on applications from second-year students enrolled in colleges of veterinary medicine in Canada and the United States.
