New faculty member excited to be back in Guelph
The Department of Pathobiology welcomed a new faculty member in October.
Dr. Claire Jardine will work with Drs. Ian Barker, Bruce Hunter and Dale Smith in the comparative pathology area, specializing in wildlife and ecosystem health.
“I’m very excited,” says the Kanata, Ont., native. “It’s great to be back in Guelph and a wonderful opportunity to be here at OVC.”
Jardine is a University of Guelph graduate, earning a BSc in wildlife biology before completing an MSc at the University of British Columbia. She completed here DVM and PhD at the University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. Her major area of interest is the ecology of disease in wildlife populations, especially pathogens that can also infect humans.
Although her appointment commenced Oct. 10, Jardine spent most of the next month in southwestern Saskatchewan surveying rodent-borne diseases in the region adjacent to Grasslands National Park. The project is in partnership with Parks Canada and the Toronto Zoo.
