OVC Grad Joins Radiology Team
You may see some new faces next time you’re in the Department of Clinical Studies.
Radiology specialist Dr. Heather Chalmers, OVC ’02, joined the faculty in January.
Also returning to the OVC fold this spring are Dr. Thomas Gibson, OVC ’95, and Dr. Chantale Pinard, OVC ’93.
Gibson, a small animal surgeon and diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, starts April 1.
Pinard, a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, assumes her new position May 1.
Chalmers, who after graduation completed a residency in radiology at Cornell, is also a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology.
The London, Ont. native and former Gryphons soccer player said returning to OVC was always in the back of her mind. But she hadn’t expected it to happen so quickly.
“It really wasn’t in my immediate post-graduation career plan — it was more in my 10 to 15-year plan,” said Chalmers, pictured below, who weighed many factors in her decision to return to Guelph.
“What really sets OVC apart is the opportunity to work with a great group of people. There’s a sense of community here that you won’t find anywhere else.”
Chalmers’ clinical interests are in the area of large animal imaging and she plans to continue her research on equine upper respiratory diseases.
Her work will focus on refining imaging techniques for examining horses, in particular the use of ultrasonography of the equine larynx to help diagnose racehorses with performance problems and upper airway diseases.
