Frost Week Offers Sports, Snacks, Screenings
January 13, 2006 - News Release
A week of events has been planned to bring students together and welcome them back for the winter semester. Frost Week, an initiative organized by the Central Student Association (CSA) and Interhall Council along with other campus clubs and organizations, runs Jan. 15 to 22 and will include movie screenings, a Winterlympics, winter treats and a ski trip.
“The idea is to give students a break from the stresses of returning to school after holidays,” said CSA Frost Week co-ordinator Gordon Fogg. “It’s also a great way to build community and encourage students to meet new friends and make new connections that will help them throughout their university career.”
The week kicks off with a free screening of March of the Penguins Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in Room 1200 of the Thornbrough Building.
On Jan. 16, students will have an opportunity to get to know their student union at a “Skate With the CSA” event at 2 p.m. at the red rink of the twin-pad arena. Participants will also enjoy free snacks and hot chocolate.
A ski and snowboard trip to Glen Eden Ski and Snowboard Centre is scheduled for Jan. 18. Buses will leave from Macdonald Hall and from the Dundas Lane and Prairie Hall underpass at 4 p.m. and will return at 10 p.m. The cost is $17 without rentals or $28 with rentals. Space is limited. Tickets are available at each residence hall’s selling table or by calling Ext. 76594.
The CSA Winterlympics runs Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Johnston Green. Events include snowshoeing, a beanbag toss, an egg toss and a trivia contest. To register a team, e-mail team information, including names and hall or club affiliation, to gfogg@uoguelph.ca or register at the event. A trophy will be awarded to the hall with the most points at the end of the day’s competition, and individual honours and team prizes will also be handed out.
Other planned activities include breakdancing lessons, a snowman building contest, and snow dodge ball and soccer competitions.
