Prof to Talk About Shakespeare, Concert on CBC Radio

Prof. Diane Nalini de Kerckhove will be featured live on the CBC Radio program Ontario Morning Wednesday at around 8:10 a.m. The jazz singer/songwriter and physics professor will be discussing her latest album, a collection of 15 of Shakespeare’s sonnets and songs set to original jazz, funk and blues music, and her Thursday concert at U of G.
Ontario Morning, hosted by Avril Benoît, is the wake-up show for listeners in Southern Ontario outside of Toronto. In Guelph, it can be heard via the Internet.
Prof. de Kerckhove (who performs as Diane Nalini) spent five years working on her album Songs of Sweet Fire, her third CD since she started recording in 2001. She will premiere the works at U of G Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in War Memorial Hall, along with the Montreal band that accompanied her on the album.
The concert is serving as a kick-off event for Guelph’s Shakespeare — Made in Canada festival, set to run from January to May 2007. Its goal is to create a regional cultural synergy focusing specifically on Canadian interpretations, adaptations and exhibitions of the Bard’s work.
Tickets for the concert are $25, with all proceeds going to the festival. They are available at the University’s Bookstore and at The Bookshelf and Twelfth Night Music Shoppe in downtown Guelph.
