U of G Profs to be Highlighted in National Media

Prof. Mike Dixon will be featured on the CTV series Canadians on the Cutting Edge June 26 at 7:45 a.m. The ongoing series highlights innovative Canadian technology and research.
Dixon joined the University in 1985 and is now director of the Controlled Environment Systems Research Facility and chair of the Department of Environmental Biology. He formed the space and advanced life support agriculture program at the University. This program currently represents Canada’s prime contribution to the international space program objectives in life support.
Prof. Scott Weese has received extensive media coverage for his recent research on the health risks petting zoos pose to humans because people aren't washing their hands. In his recent study, which is to be published in the July 1 edition of Clinical Infectious Diseases and is available now online, Weese points out how pathogens like E.coli and Salmonella can easily jump from animals to humans at petting zoos. This research has been covered by the Globe and Mail, The New York Times and the BBC News.
Prof. Diane Nalini de Kerckhove was featured on the national CBC Radio program The Sunday Edition June 24. The physicist talked about her teaching and research and her “after hours” job as a jazz singer and songwriter.
