U of G Faculty and Staff Receive Accolades

Several members of the University community have received recent honours from regional and national organizations.
Prof. Kendall Swanson, Department of Animal and Poultry Science, was awarded the 2007 Young Scientist Award at the Canadian Society of Animal Science annual meeting in Winnipeg. This award recognizes the achievements of new members of the research community who have demonstrated excellence in animal science.
Four staff members at the Child Care and Learning Centre received Access Recognition Awards from the Guelph Barrier Free Committee. Judy Callahan, Lisa Henshall, Shawna McCaughan and Rachelle Campbell were recognized for helping to encourage freedom from social and physical barriers for all members of the Guelph community. Pat Richards of the Department of Athletics also received an Access Recognition Award.
The Graduate Student Learning Initiative, a U of G group that brings together services to support graduate student learning, writing, library research and technology use, received the Innovation Award from the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services.
Prof. Ron Stansfield, former program head of justice studies at the University of Guelph-Humber, and Jayne Butler, distance learning specialist with the Office of Open Learning, received the 2007 Canadian Association for University Continuing Education Program Award in the local/regional category for the justice studies program at Guelph-Humber. The award recognizes innovation and excellence in program development.
Prof. Nathan Perkins, School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, is this year’s winner of the Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising Medallion. Presented by U of G’s Council on Undergraduate Academic Advising, the award recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to undergraduate academic advising at the University. Perkins will be presented with the medallion in the fall.
