November 30, 2007 - Campus Bulletin
University of Guelph students helped raise more than $13,200 this week for the Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington by pulling massive tractors 100 feet as quickly as they could.
The "Tractor Tug for Tots" event, organized by the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) Class of 2008, involved 40, eight-person teams from U of G, the City of Guelph and surrounding areas. Each team collected pledges in advance and then pulled a 17,000-pound Case or John Deere tractor along the road between Rozanski Hall and the Crop Science Building to a finish line.
The top three fastest teams were the Guelph Police, Elmira Farm Service and the OAC graduate students. The team from the OAC's dean's office was the top fund-raising team, while an team of first-year students was awarded "Best Dressed" for dressing up like superheroes.
All of the money raised goes to the Children's Foundation, which funds enrichment activities for local youth such as summer camps, music and dance lessons, sports team and scholarships.
