Retired English professor Mary Rubio was featured on the National Public Radio show On Point Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. On Point airs daily on more than 120 NPR stations across the United States.

Rubio took part in an hour-long discussion about the 100th anniversary of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables. Listen to the show

Rubio is one of the pre-eminent Montgomery experts in the world, having been asked by Montgomery's son, Stuart Macdonald, to edit his mother's personal journals. Rubio and retired English professor Elizabeth Waterston edited and published five volumes of The Selected Journals of L.M. Montgomery. Rubio has also written a biography about Montgomery that will be published this fall.

During her lifetime, Montgomery wrote 22 novels and 53 years’ worth of personal diaries. She also kept extensive journals from the time she was 14. U of G is home to the L.M. Montgomery Collection, which includes the author’s journals, scrapbooks, memorabilia, photo albums, genealogical files, legal and business papers, needle and decorative handiwork, and the Order of the British Empire medal she received in 1935, as well as original typescripts of some of her stories and other works.
