U of G Hosts 85th College Royal Weekend
March 11, 2009 - News Release
An 85-year-old tradition continues with College Royal 2009 at the University of Guelph March 21 and 22.
More than 30,000 people are expected to visit when U of G opens its doors for North America's largest student-run university open house.
This year’s theme is “Continuing the Royal Legacy.” The weekend will feature all the traditional events visitors have come to know and love while showcasing all that Guelph has to offer the future through research and innovation, said Andrew Zwambag, College Royal 2009 president.
“Thousands of students are volunteering their time to show visitors what life at the University of Guelph is all about,” said Zwambag. “There is truly something to experience for people of all ages!”
Events include livestock shows, square dancing, campus tours, a lecture series, a logging competition, dog and cat shows, a photography show and a flower-arranging competition. The weekend is full of kids’ events such as Old Macdonald's New Farm, a junior tractor rodeo, face painting, teddy bear surgery and food science milkshakes. Visitors can also check out Curtain Call Productions’ presentation of Fame – The Musical, a chemistry magic show, a juried art show and the many student displays and exhibits.
