September 22, 2009 - In the News

Prof. Scott Weese, a pathobiologist at the Ontario Veterinary College, is quoted in a New York Times story this week. The article looks at how methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is increasingly becoming an problem for veterinarians, and quotes numerous experts, including Weese.

Weese is a leading researcher on two zoonotic pathogens — Clostridium difficile and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus — and in veterinary infection control. He has done numerous studies on the subject, including how therapy dogs visiting hospitals and nursing homes may be able to transmit MRSA to people and how pigs are now on the list of potential MRSA carriers.
