The University of Guelph Chamber Singers were featured on CBC Radio 2's Choral Concert Sunday. The group won first place at the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs in the mixed-voice collegiate choirs category.
“This is a major accomplishment,” says conductor and music professor Marta McCarthy. “Our choir has made the finals consistently since 2006, but this is their first win.”
In 2006, the University of Guelph Women's Chamber Choir placed third out of 78 entries in the contemporary class.
The results were announced July 6 in St. John's, N.L., at an awards ceremony attended by 1,200 choral enthusiasts at the Festival 500 International Choral Festival.
