Judith Thompson, a University of Guelph theatre studies professor and award-winning playwright, is directing a show that premiered at Toronto’s SummerWorks Festival on Sunday. Thompson dramaturged the play from its inception.
Freda and Jem’s Best of the Week, about a lesbian couple going through a difficult breakup, has garnered positive attention in the media. The show is playing at the Factory Studio Theatre this week. More information is available online.
Thompson is a widely recognized playwright, director, screenwriter, actor and producer whose work has earned critical praise. In 2005, she was named an Officer of the Order of Canada for her outstanding contributions in arts and writing.
Her 1984 Governor General's Award-winning play, White Biting Dog, opens at Soulpepper on Aug. 13.
