Comment on Library Master Plan Monday, Win a MacBook
September 05, 2013 - Campus Bulletin
Members of the University of Guelph and greater community are invited to comment on the new master space plan for the McLaughlin Library – and enter to win a new MacBook Air.
Drop-in town hall sessions will take place Monday, Sept. 9, 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Library’s Academic Town Square and from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Science Complex atrium.
Attendees may discuss the project with representatives of the architectural design firm and Library staff members. Participants providing formal comments may enter to win a MacBook Air.
In peak periods, more than 12,000 people use the McLaughlin Library daily, and more than 1.5 million people visit annually. The Library’s Master Space Planning Working Group was formed last fall to seek ways to create more functional and inspirational space. Cannon Design International has been hired to support plan development.
Having already gathered comments on space needs through focus groups, town hall sessions and individual feedback sessions, the group has prepared renovation and expansion options.
During the town hall sessions, the group will gather more stakeholder comments to ensure the plan meets current and future needs.
“During the fall and winter semesters, the library is packed to capacity, and we’ve identified as one of our priorities creating a variety of additional user spaces,” said Rebecca Graham, CIO and chief librarian.
“The research and community engagement conducted during the project will inform potential upgrades, repurposing and/or possible expansions over the next decade. This is a top priority for us.”
