University of Guelph athletes captured national gold, silver and bronze medals this weekend.
The men’s lacrosse team won the Baggataway Cup, making them the national champions of the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA). They beat the defending champions McGill 14-11. It’s the fourth CUFLA banner for the Gryphons and their first since 2008.
The women’s lacrosse team won the Ontario University Athletics’ silver medal. They lost the championship final to the Western Mustangs 13-8.
The women’s rugby team won the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) silver medal. They played the University of Alberta in the final match at TELUS-Université Laval Stadium, losing 29-10. It is the 11th CIS medal for the U of G team.
In field hockey, the Gryphons won the bronze medal. These women athletes defeated the University of Waterloo 6-0 in their final game.
