CSS*4120-This course is a seminar and supervised field placement in a community or social service agency providing students with an in-depth experience of front-line work in a human services agency under direct supervision. Students develop work habits such as serving clients effectively, which make them an asset to the agency, and how to navigate moral, ethical, clinical, and political issues as they emerge in their placements. Students work as part of a team, and learn how to effectively use supervision. Agency field supervisors and faculty advisors may raise professional, ethical, attitudinal, and practical issues which they consider to be important for students to address. Instructor may be required to participate in course website training. The Sessional Lecturer will: 1. Within the first month of the semester connect with the agency field supervisor to send any relevant field placement materials and to schedule a status review meeting after block placement week. 2. Conduct a virtual or on-site status review meeting (as appropriate) with the student and supervisor. Additional meetings may be required as necessary. 3. Work with students and agency field supervisors around issues of concern to develop strategies addressing concerns. 4. Liaise as necessary with field supervisor by e-mail and/or telephone. 5. Consult with program chair and field placement coordinator around issues of concern expressed by students and /or field supervisors.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Degree: 
Masters related to field
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Successful teaching related to field at college or university level
Required competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Successful recent clinical field experience. Substantive knowledge of the course content area.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree: 
PhD related to field
Prior Teaching Experience: 
Many years of successful teaching related to contents of the course.
Research Experience: 
Quality and or Recent Research activity in related field demonstrating knowledge of current developments in course content.
Specific Preferred competence, capability, skill and ability related to course content: 
Candidates should provide in their application evidence of prior teaching experience and teaching success/excellence related to course content, which may include a dossier, teaching philosophy, examples of teaching innovations, course developments, evaluations of previously taught courses (e.g., peer evaluations and/or student feedback), reference letters, and any other relevant information they wish to have evaluated by the selection committee (some documents on file in the department or program, such as UofGH Student Feedback Questionnaires of courses taught on UofG contracts, may also be used). Relevant work experience in the social work/social services field or related field.
