Collection Protocol

Collect blood into a red-top vacutainer; avoid hemolysis. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible following collection and transfer to a leakproof tube. Refrigerate until shipped. Do not use SST blood collection tubes. Heparin plasma is not acceptable.

Additional Information

Insulin is batch-tested once per week. Suitable for investigation of equine metabolic syndrome. For equines, no grain within 4 hours of sample collection. For suspected insulinoma DO NOT fast. For suspected diabetes mellitus diagnosis, serum glucose and fructosamine and urine glucose are recommended.
