All submissions must be accompanied by a completed submission form (available on the AHL website). Please also refer to AHL LabNote 43* [6]. Requests for private cremation must be clearly indicated on the submission form. The timing of release of remains for private cremation is at the discretion of the pathologist (typically once all testing is completed). The AHL releases remains for private cremation only to licensed cremation service providers. A fee for handling, storage, and release of remains will apply. Once the veterinary client has been notified that the remains are available for release, the onus is on the client to ensure timely pickup. Remains will be held for 1 mo following release. Due to storage limitations, remains that are not claimed will be forwarded for communal cremation. Additional fee will apply for extra documentation and images required for legal and insurance cases.
