Engineering professor and Alliance-funded researcher Dr. Manjusri Misra wins Women in Sustainability Award
She received The SustainabilityX® Magazine's 2024 Global 50 Women In Sustainability Award for her efforts toward advancing sustainability and driving meaningful change.
Misra’s research focuses on biobased composites and nanocomposites from agricultural, forestry, and waste resources, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
She has published over 850 works, holds 60 patents, and developed marketable compostable products, including coffee pods and cutlery. In 2020, she was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women.
With funding from the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance, Misra's research has led to more sustainable biocomposites, used in commercial applications including vehicle head lamps; sustainable packaging made from non-food biomass; eco-friendly cutlery made from biomaterials; and the first 100 per cent compostable single-served coffee pods, PURPOD100™.
