Research Summary: "Winter canola production in Eastern Canada is a growing segment of the Canadian canola industry. Presently, winter canola acreage in Ontario is clustered in the most southerly portion of the province, and expansion is limited by concerns about stand losses over winter in shorter season locations. The goal of this research is to enhance the over winter survival of winter canola by evaluating the impact and interaction of plant growth regulators (PGR), planting date and hybrids/varieties with improved winter hardiness. In particular, this research will address the following objectives:
• Objective 1: Determine the impact of PGRs on the overwinter survival and yield of various winter canola cultivars in south-east and north-east Ontario.
• Objective 2: Determine the impact of PGRs on the duration of the planting window for winter canola in southern and northern Ontario."
