Ponsonby Technical Agriculture Assistant: Pam Hasson
The Ponsonby General Animal Facility is a unique, flexible, multi-purpose research animal housing facility designed to house a variety of livestock species and ages. Swine, sheep, dairy calves, non-lactating cows, beef calves and cows are obtained from other research facilities or private farms.
The facility is owned by Agricultural Research and Innovation Ontario and managed by U of G through the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance.
This facility offers:
- Five heated rooms with individual pens
- Semi-heated intensive areas with six group pens that can be subdivided into as many as four individual pens
- Naturally ventilated area with six large group pens
- Animal handling area
Research areas and outcomes
At the Ponsonby General Animal Facility, researchers can bring in a wide range of animals from other research flocks or herds, private farms or other sources, for temporary housing on specific research projects. See current research at the Ponsonby General Animal Facility [1].
