Research Summary: Producers of plant starches, used for industrial non-food applications such as paints and adhesives, currently have limited, costly options for processing, which often result in resorting to the production of hazardous by-products. This study aims to improve the functionality of the plant starches by enhancing branching frequency and reducing amylose, two characteristics that are highly valued by the industry. This will provide the industry with a valuable alternative to the current costly methods.
