Method of Delivery:

This course will be meeting in person on campus (i.e. face-to-face) every Wednesday from 11:30-2:20, unless public health orders dictate otherwise. 

Course Synopsis:

The focus of this course will be on standpoint epistemology and its connection to related issues in feminist and social epistemologies. We will trace the history of standpoint epistemology, reading some classic work from the 1980s (e.g. Hartsock and Haraway), through to its current incarnation. Along the way, we will explore the idea of situated knowledge by looking at the respect in which what we know – or, significantly, do not know – relates to our social identity. We will get a grip on these issues by exploring a broad range of topics connected to social identities, including race, gender, and disability.
