Method of Delivery:
This course meets face to face, once a week for 1.5 hours. Some sessions may be virtual, on the Microsoft Teams virtual platform.
Course Synopsis:
This course aims to develop a range of academic and professional skills. The course is divided into four sections.
- Awards: skills for successful grant and fellowship applications; SSHRC and OGS fellowships; public communication of research.
- Teaching: skills for running effective tutorials and classes; fostering inclusive and respectful teaching environments; teaching your own course.
- Research: conference participation; research programs; bibliographic software: journal publication; thesis proposals; oral qualifying exams.
- Careers: career strategies; professional career development; academic careers; non-academic careers; preparing for the job market.
Assignments & Means of Evaluation:
This course is Pass or Fail. Attendance is mandatory. Completion of a number of assignments, over the course of the term is required.
