This course will focus on the historical, social, and cultural dimensions of Darwin’s theory of evolution, from the late 18^th century to the present. Topics may include: natural history, classification, social Darwinism, race and imperialism, science & religion, science & literature, the eugenics movement, the Scopes trial, the modern evolutionary synthesis, sociobiology, gender, antievolutionism and creationism/intelligent design.
