Course objectives:
The objective of this course is to provide students with the basic skills for reading literature of the Spanish-speaking world. We will be focusing on critical terminology and methods through a selection of prose, poetry, drama and film from Spain, Latin America and Spanish-speaking Africa.
Learning outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify the major literary periods in Hispanic literature
- Use appropriate terminology in the analysis and discussion of Hispanic literature and film
- Describe the key aspects of the works considered
- Write short essays in Spanish on assigned topics in Hispanic literature
- Improve their proficiency in Spanish
