Course Synopsis:  

Modern Asia is a survey of “modern” East Asian history, with focus on China, Japan, and Korea. Our study will proceed in a roughly chronological fashion, examining selected topics from the eighteenth to twentieth centuries. Subjects of inquiry will include economics, gender, imperialism, politics, religion, and war.

Methods of Evaluation and Weights:

Mid-Term Exam (30%)
Primary Source Analytical Paper (30%)
Final Exam (40%)
